File Cannot Open Due to Long File Path in Windows

Map a network drive

If the path involves a network share, try mapping the network path to a drive letter, which will reduce the number of characters.

Enable long path support

On Windows 10 and later, you can enable long path support by modifying the registry or group policy:

  • Open the registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem.

  • Find LongPathsEnabled and set its value to 1.

  • Reboot the system so the changes take effect.
